Awesome, I can't wait to listen to this one. I'm going to post a comment now and then edit it later with my thoughts after I listen!

OK, finally finished listening - great episode! Some thoughts:

    • I don't love when Steven trots out the "everything you see here has been built in less than 6 months" line, as that feels a little bit like media spin.
    • The castle siege details were great, this was a system that hadn't been discussed that much previously so you guys unearthed a lot of good design discussion around those, nice job!
    • Really enjoyed Steven's comments about narrative and how he hopes the Ashes storyline will play like a weekly D&D campaign. That definitely speaks to me!
    • Glad to hear that emphasis on 1v1 PvP balance will not be a priority. I've always enjoyed games which have a rock-paper-scissors power balance in terms of classes and PvP. For me DAoC is a perfect example of a game where certain 1v1 matchups are inherently unfair towards one side, but yet the overall PvP of the game itself was balanced extremely well.

There is ALOT of good info on Castle Sieges as well as the Corruption mechanic which we talked about on Episode 40 and got a lot of hate on but turns out Steven about 100% confirmed what we theorized lol.

Great episode so much info in there about just how they want castle sieges to work, sounds to me like you could spend your whole play time just pvping around keeps if you so desired. Really was a more in depth account of the type of systems they intend to put in place, levels for inn's that unlock better more advanced features, just wow. I would imagine such systems would be in place for all of the crafting systems, forges, smelters, saw mills, farms etc the list goes on.

These type of things have just gone missing from MMO's of recent times or were simply too complex for anyone to try and implement, but finally it seems there is someone with the vison to try and create the feel of a table top rpg and bring it to life as a true MMORPG on our computer screens. I found myself just sitting here listening, slowly nodding my head in agreement with everything that was said, again I will say that the vison Steven has seems to be so crystal clear to him and I admire his determination to bring it to fruition. I like the guys on this episode just cant bring myself to play anything but MMO's now, other games just feel hollow and empty, there is no meaning to them in my eyes, strange I know but that is just how I feel.

The I want it now types I don't think will have any place here tbh, but as Steven said there are enough people out there who feel the way he does about MMORPG's to make Ashes a success and I cant help but agree with him. Ashes will be the type of game you can just immerse yourself in, here are the toys now go out in to the world of Verra and play with them and see just what we can build.

I actually wonder if the less than 2 years we have left will be enough time to created this wonderful world.

Close your eyes, spread your arms, and always trust your cape.
