When I decided to create Ashen Foundry, I deliberately moved away from the platform (WordPress) which was powering our previous Elder Scrolls Online site Tamriel Foundry. When creating Tamriel Foundry, I really enjoyed working with WordPress and learned a lot during the process about development using PHP and the WordPress paradigm, however with Ashen Foundry I was ready for a change to move to a platform where I have more control. As some of you know, Ashen Foundry is built on Django, and I have really loved developing on this platform.
Given how enthusiastic I feel about continuing Foundry development in Django, it makes the most sense to undertake a grand migration to bring Tamriel Foundry onto the new platform and to integrate the sites. I'm happy to share that the first phase of that migration is now complete!
As a result of this first phase migration, Tamriel Foundry user accounts have been migrated and merged with Ashen Foundry accounts into a single common user database. The sites are still technically separate, the formal migration of Tamriel Foundry will be "phase two" which I will be starting work on soon. For the time being, anyone who has registered a Tamriel Foundry account can use that same account on this site, but not vice-versa.
There were a number of back-end changes to support the unified authentication model which will power both Foundry sites. We tested site behavior and performance fairly carefully before rolling out this change, but there may still be unexpected bugs or issues. If you do encounter something not working as expected, please reach out to email@example.com, your bug reports are much appreciated! I am very excited looking forward to what we can build and the community that will grow here in the coming new year.
- If you had an account on both sites, they should have been merged. Accounts may not have been automatically merged if they did not share a common username or email address. If you had accounts on both Ashen Foundry and Tamriel Foundry and they did NOT merge automatically, please reach out via email or discord and I can associate them manually.
- As a result of the user merge, a small number of accounts were forced into username changes in order to guarantee that all usernames are globally unique. If you were affected by this I will be reaching out via email. Regardless of whether or not you were affected, if you would like to change your username, please feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
